Manitoba residents, viewing SHAW TV on Friday September 21st 2007 saw the interview by Tracy Koga with RFM McInnis who had been invited to represent the province of Manitoba at Baie
Saint-Paul, Quebec’s “Rêves d’automne” Art Festival.

“Voyageur”
En représentant la ceinture fléchée sur cette toile, je fais un portrait de ma province, le Manitoba. Mais dans ce cas-ci, c’est un ‘foulard fléché’ porté autour du cou au lieu de la taille comme le veut la tradition. Ce foulard a été tissé la main par mon épouse, Françoise Cardinal lorsque nous sommes arrivés à Winnipeg en décembre 2005.
Johanne St-Gelais, agente de développement culturel de Baie Saint-Paul a gracieusement accepté de poser pour cette toile. En transposant son image de Baie Saint-Paul au Québec, sur un canevas représentant le Manitoba, je fais d’elle une vraie ‘Voyageur’.
Cette toile est une commémoration de tous les habitants du Manitoba, mais particulièrement des Franco-voyageurs devenus les Franco-Manitobains d’aujourd’hui.
Sur la toile, Johanne porte également un chandail à capuchon que les gens de Winnipeg, capitale du Manitoba, peuvent facilement déployer lors des intempéries et qui ressemble aux pèlerines d’antan.

C’est avec plaisir que RFM McInnis a accepté de représenter la province du Manitoba lors du populaire festival d’art ‘Rêves d’automne’ à Baie Saint-Paul, Québec. Septembre 2007.
“Voyageur”
“I am creating a portrait of my home province of Manitoba, by depicting the ‘ceinture fléchée’ (sash traditionally worn around the waist). Only in this case it is worn around the neck as a scarf, or a ‘foulard fléché’, woven by my wife Françoise Cardinal when we arrived in Winnipeg in December 2005.”
Johanne St-Gelais, Cultural Development Agent for the City of Baie Saint Paul kindly accepted to model for this painting. Transposing her image from Baie Saint-Paul, Quebec, onto a canvas representing Manitoba, makes her a true ‘voyageur’.
It is the Franco-Voyageurs, the future Franco-Manitobans, along with all the residents of the province of Manitoba that this painting celebrates.
Johanne is also wearing what is sometimes called a ‘hoody’, an item of clothing often worn by men and women in the streets of Winnipeg, the Capital city. The hood is merely thrown over the head in inclement weather.
